Special edition of Community Link
This has been a mild winter for Napa Valley, but a cold, gray season for working families and the nonprofit organizations that support them.
Demand for food, shelter and emergency assistance is up sharply. Nonprofits are serving more people, even as donations and government grants have fallen away.
By pooling resources in our Community Impact Funds, dozens of local donors have been able to help in a big way, not only with basic human needs, but in other important areas like the arts and education.
Here are some highlights of what we're doing with our Community Impact Funds and how--together with our donors--we are making a difference.
* $366,000 targeted to basic human needs, with a focus on the safety net--food, housing and emergency assistance
* $141,000 for afterschool programs, and projects to improve college-readiness among low-income teens
* $45,000 to strengthen the arts sector and help it thrive
* $97,000 to build the infrastructure of Napa County nonprofits
