Emerging Environmental Leaders Scholarship

The Emerging Environmental Leaders Scholarship benefits Napa County high school seniors and Napa Valley Community College students who are passionate about protecting the environment and improving their community. Applicant must be highly motivated, thoughtful, and taking early steps—big or small—toward climate action. Recipients must be planning to pursue a college degree at a community college or four-year college/university. Recipients of the scholarship will receive funding for up to four years while working to complete their undergraduate degree.

Who’s Eligible?

  • Graduating high school seniors who attend a high school in Napa County
  • Current Napa Valley Community College students

All Applicants Must:

  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be participating in one or more school-based or nonprofit environmental/climate clubs/organizations (such as but not limited to the Napa Sierra Club Internship Program and Napa Schools for Climate Action)
  • Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0
  • Be planning to attend an accredited, non-profit, two-year or four-year college/university pursuing undergraduate studies in majors (like science or political science) that prepare them to be leaders in the fight against climate change

Award Amount:

$2,500 per year for up to four years ($10,000 total)

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application
  • Three short essays in response to the following questions (250 words or less):
  1. What major are you pursuing and why have you chosen this major?
  2. If you could fix one environmental problem that affects your community or your daily life in Napa County, what would you choose, and what is one step you hope to take—now or in the future—to help address it?
  3. Tell us about any environmental volunteer work, school projects, or community activities you’ve been part of. What did you do, and what did the experience teach you about the kind of impact you want to make?
  • A copy of your most recent unofficial transcript or a GED Certificate
  • A copy of the page from your FAFSA Student Aid Report or California Dream Act Student Aid Report showing your Student Aid Index (SAI)if applicable
