Big Support for Napa County Small Animals

Napa Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) is honored to distribute $225,000 from the David and Jane Gotelli Family Fund to support nine Napa County nonprofit organizations and public agencies whose work improves or sustains the welfare of small animals throughout the Valley.

This year’s round of grants will fund the following organizations:

Jameson Humane      Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter

Napa County Animal Response Team

Napa County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center

Napa Humane     Ripple Effect Animal Project

We Care Animal Rescue     Wildlife Rescue Center of Napa County

Wine Country Animal Lovers

Services funded include: rescue, foster and adoption; spay and neuter subsidies; emergency medical care; sheltering; and disaster preparedness. In total, the grants will serve 10,000 animals and their people this year.

This is the third year that the Foundation has awarded grants from the David and Jane Gotelli Family Fund, which was established with a generous bequest from the late David and Jane Gotelli in 2018. Longtime Napa residents, Mr. and Mrs. Gotelli created an endowed Legacy Fund, managed by NVCF, to establish a permanent income stream that would forever support the health, welfare, humane treatment, adoption, and care of small animals within Napa County. Including this latest round, grants from the Fund since inception total $530,000.

“We are very grateful for the generous grant from the David and Jane Gotelli Family Fund,” said Leah Wilberding, Director of Development at We Care Animal Rescue. “While many of our cats are considered unadoptable due to health, age or temperament, this support helps us to work toward finding homes for these special animals. And, as the only organization in Napa County that offers hospice care for cats, these funds allow us to provide compassionate care for those feline residents who live out their days at our shelter.”

Grant applications are typically announced in the Fall and awarded the following Spring.  Proposals are reviewed by a special committee that includes members of the Foundation’s Board and a local veterinarian. All qualified organizations that serve the welfare of small animals in the Valley are encouraged to apply.
