Project Description
For three decades, Napa Valley Community Foundation has been a cornerstone of community support, collaborating with local donors and nonprofits to address the most pressing challenges facing our Valley. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2024, we reflect on a journey marked by over $100 million in grants, driven by a vision of a prosperous, resilient community. In commemoration of this milestone, NVCF seeks to commission a painted mural that embodies the essence of Napa Countyâour collective generosity, the stunning beauty of our region, and the resiliency, industriousness, and civic spirit of the people who define our community.
Situated on the vibrant Sato Family Nonprofit Center campus, the chosen mural will adorn the face of our mid-century modern building â which, in addition to NVCF, houses nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving children and families in Napa Valley.
Over the past 30 years, NVCF has worked to create a thriving, inclusive and equitable Napa Valley where collective generosity propels community-wide prosperity, resilience, and wellbeing. We proudly focus on:Â
- Championing Community: Enhancing citizenship, democracy, and civic engagement.
- Fighting Poverty: Bolstering the social safety net to address housing, hunger, and  wellness.
- Meeting the Moment: Responding swiftly to urgent community needs, including disaster recovery.
- Investing in Youth: Promoting the educational advancement of our young people.

Project Goals
The ideal candidate will identify with our mission and strive to create a mural that interprets these themes while bringing their unique style and insight to the work:
- Visual Gateway: Create a striking visual entry point to NVCF, encapsulating the essence of our mission.
- Universal Accessibility: Design a mural that resonates with and is accessible to all age groups, reflecting the welcoming and expansive vibe of our vision: âA thriving, inclusive, equitable Napa Valley where collective generosity propels community-wide prosperity, resilience, and wellbeing.â
- Community Representation: Illustrate the vitality and diversity of Napa Valley.
- Celebratory and Inspirational: Ensure the artwork celebrates NVCFâs three decades of impact, inspiring continued generosity, and involvement in community well-being.
- Unique and unexpected: Create a work of art that doesnât rely on the shopworn visual tropes of wine country to convey a strong sense of place.
 Artwork Opportunity
The artwork opportunity is for a painted mural, up to 14âx45â on the southeastern cement block façade of the building, facing Claremont Way. The site is a focal point for the Foundation, adjacent to our main entrance, and the mural will be easily seen by vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
