George & Gwendolyn Goodin Endowment Fund

The George and Gwendolyn Goodin Endowment Fund provides one-year college and university scholarships to Napa County residents who are military veterans, or Napa County residents who are dependents of military veterans who were wounded or died while in active service. The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each scholarship will be determined by the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee.

Who’s Eligible?

  • Must be resident of Napa County at the time of application
  • Must be a military veteran, or child/spouse of a military veteran who was wounded or died while in active service
  • For the purpose of this scholarship, a military veteran is someone who has served in active duty other than for training purposes and has been discharged in anything other than dishonorable conditions.
  • Special consideration may be made for individuals who did not meet active duty requirements due to discharge for a service-connected disability
  • Former recipients are eligible to apply again in subsequent years

All Applicants Must:

  • Be attending, or planning to attend a two- or four-year college/university pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies, or a vocational college (the school you plan to attend may be outside of Napa County)
  • Be in good standing with the school attended most recently, and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0 with that institution, or have received a California High School Equivalency Certificate by passing the General Educational Development Test (GED)

Award Amount:

$1,000 to $5,000

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application
  • 200 word essay in response to the question “What are your educational and career goals, and why? How do you plan to meet these goals?” If you are a previous recipient your response is to the question “What progress have you made toward your educational and career goals from last year and how have they changed?”
  • 200 word essay in response to the question “Why do you need this scholarship? How would receiving this scholarship remove any barriers that exist to meeting your academic goals?”
  • 200 words describing your community service activities and work experience
  • A copy of your most recent unofficial transcript or a GED Certificate
  • One academic letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or administrator
  • One copy of your Member Copy-4 DD214 form or the most recent DD214 form reflecting character of service, or your parent or spouse’s DD214 form specific to their injury or death while on active duty
  • Proof of residency in Napa County
